22.11.13 Story, Poem and Inspiration Point of the Week

We have some very well deserved prizes this week for two absolutely outstanding pieces of writing.

Poem of the week goes to a102866's Pumpkin Harvest, a beautiful evocation of the Autumn season. The poem's sharp, lyrical images are emphasised with a description of a line of immigrant laborers marching up the lines of gourds to 'snip their / frost-bitten umbilical / cords'.  And our story of the week goes to geegogs1 for  ‘Let’s Move on Immediately,’ a hilarious primer for all the cliché's and quips a woman has to put up with by the time she reaches her third trimester. It's both funny and inventive.

Have a read of these, and this week's inspiration point, here:

I cannot get my Ip 'For a long time I went to bed early' to come up as published. I have spent a lot of time working on it and revising it. It is in my content but it will not move onto my account, recently added, stories or IP. Could you help me please?

I have noticed it is in my collection Lost and Found if you scroll to the bottom, after The Open Door. I hope readers will find it! It is eventful and real and comes with a non shock-jock gentle warning before you choose to peek.

Hi Elsie,

I've had a look and I see what you're saying - how annoying!

I think the problem is with the server sorting out the edited version from the original; somehow it's hit a bit of a black hole and I can't seem to be able to make it reappear on the IP list. Is there any way you could copy the IP to word, delete it and then repost it? That should fix the problem - and please do post the link here as it's a great piece and I'm sure others would like to have a look!

Luke, thanks for searching. When I get round to it, yes I will post it again, and you are right it has been through a couple of edits and the system seemed to jam up. Right now it is not even showing on my Lost and Found collection anymore. I was tempted to self-censor and forget about it as although I do not write to deliberabately shock or provoke people my past is sometimes such that... and this piece, although I play around with the timing and glue two periods of my life together when they are four years apart and I sort of 'steam up' the first part it is still close to autobiography. However you have now encouraged me to press on regardless.

If ever I give a lecture to the University of the Third Age (an achievable goal as I think the lecturers simply do it for fun and travel expenses) one topic that enthralls me is how we define autobiography.     Elsie
