I'm about 50 yards from the river near the Lea bridge, E5. The nature reserve is on the other side of the river and its very tranquil and I do enjoy a spot of fishing. Whereabouts are you? My dream is to live in a world where a pure strain of capitalism is upheld, that dillegence and talent are justly rewarded. I have few political neighbours even amongs friends but persevere!

The trouble with capitalistic meritocracies is that they tend to fascism Jude. Which might suit you till the inevitable revolution by which time you might be on the menu. They tell me torybird in a rich, blackbean sauce is delicious with a saucy, yet conserative, white wine.

*laughs* I see your point but True capitalism is not fascist in the same way that true communism wasn't what we saw in the USSR. I just don't believe in Socialism which is Robin Hood politics (Robbing from the rich to give to the poor). Like it or not Robin hood was a thief. When the revolution comes I will surrender myself to the Wok voluntarily!

Fish - can I join the Midlands contingent ? Drop me an email for where and when. Anyone remember Cheers, where intellectual Frazier Crane was so much brighter and more insightful than the slobs in the bar, able to see how they were wasting their lives being happy and content with their friends, yet still seemed to spend all of his life hanging out there and criticising them ? No idea why that just popped into my head.

LOL. We'll I have nothing to do all day, everyday, so I'll met up anywhere ahead of time. Some noble soul should start a new thread as we get a bit closer to the day. And Judyth, I don't think I live anywhere near you. I'm very close to the Abbey Road studios of Beatles fame. No rivers near it that I've ever seen, though it does get rather muddy in front of a construction site a few doors away.:)

I've hosted up to five ABCtales events so far -- except I failed to announce them and I was the only one who showed up.

Does anyone know the name of the Chinese restauraut where the waiters are rude to everyone? I'm now an ex-Londoner and I have forgotten. Apparently, one poor girl kept asking a very busy waiter where the toilets were located. He completely ignored her until at last he hissed in her ear 'Ah, piss in your seat!' Now that sounds like fun. I have been there and I took a friend who is a vegetarian. She was upset to find some flaked fish on her seaweed, which she assumed would be vegetarian. We told the waitress and with a flick of her grubby fork, she scraped off the fish and walked away. Now doesn't that sound like our sort of place/

*clutching VERY EXPENSIVE flight ticket* me though I'm having serious second thoughts since Liana mentioned photographs. But also having third thoughts... it will be LIANA taking the photographs. I just hope you're totally pissed and out of focus by the time you gets around to taking my mugshot, young lady. Is there anywhere we can book for an ABC event after the Poetry Cafe thing? It would be a shame (nay, a crime) for us all to be in London and only three people get to read. There must be a suitable venue somewhere near Covent Garden with a late drinking licence. Or perhaps we can book somewhere for Sunday afternoon/evening? Get your thinking caps on, you naughty Southofwatford crew.

What was it that Robin Hood was so 'made up' about Stuart? We don't know as much about him here in Kirklees - though he died here.

After carefully scrutinising the menu/drinks list, I have discovered that if I buy wine by the bottle it a. isn't a rip-off (not that I'm poor - its the principle) and b. not organic. I will therefore be attending.

How's about a midlands event in the midlands, so us poor wannabe students can get there? *smiles hopefully* Better yet, why don't you all come down to my local (King Street Run, King Street, Cambridge, East Anglia) and have an event there? *smiles even more hopefully with a hint of pleading thrown in for good measure* C'mon...you know you want to!

Why do students allways seem to think people should feel sorry for them? Students are about as popular as traffic wardens aren't they?

Dear All The name of the gaff where the waiters are rude to the customers is called the Wong Ke. It is in Wardour Street. I have eaten loads there for my sins (theatrical luvvie haunt) and have been royally bollocked on many occasions. The food is ok but you are always frightened you are going to get punched or worse. They only accept cash as well. There are some superb restaurants on Gerrard Street all offering good value. I cannot remember any names. Judith and Martin. We all live within three miles of each other, we must do the bright lights of Mare Street sooner or later. Ralph

I didn't ask you to feel sorry for me stewpot, but I am poor (as in having no money) and I do wannabe a student. It was simply a statement of facts. And are you trying to tell me traffic wardens aren't popular?
stuart
Anonymous's picture
You actually WANT to be a student. Weird. Traffic Wardens, some of my best friends etc....

It's either a student or a professional assassin, and apparently I'm better qualified to be a student than a professional assassin

Thanks Ralph. You do realise that seeing you lot made flesh, will be an odd experience. At present you are mystical picture book people, who inhabit a page that is closed every night and put gently away. Now you are going to step out of Wonderland and be real.......it's all so peculiar (suddenly, I feel like Graham Norton...)

I'll see you at the S Club 7 concert then, Andrew. I've only just found out that it's a matinee concert, so I'll be able to make the ABCtales event after all. Why don't you think about coming along yourself after the S Club 7 concert?

Robin Hood of the Wakefield Rolls Born 1290 - Died 1347 In 1852, Joseph Hunter's search through historical documents led to the theory that Robin Hood was actually named Robert Hood. Robert appeared in the Wakefield Court Rolls in 1316 and 1317. According to this theory, Robert Hood was declared an outlaw because of his support for Thomas, Earl of Lancaster who rebelled against King Edward 11 at the battle of Boroughbridge in 1322. Robert Hood was born at Loxley, killing his stepfather during an argument. He fled to Barnsdale first, then to Wakefield. There, his name appears in court roll entries for a series of minor offences. In 1317, Thomas, Earl of Lancaster began to form his own army gathered from tenants of Wakefield to fight King Edward and his favored nobles. In 1322 his army was defeated, then most of them were stripped of their lands and possessions, then executed. Any other men loyal to Lancaster, including those not present were also stripped of their lands and possessions and named Wolfshead. Robert Hood was one of these, and after gathering other men together, hid in nearby Barnsdale Forest, which is named in the Robin Hood ballads.

Looking forward to meeting you, Wolfie. But the funny thing about meeting all of us face-to-face is that none of us look anything like we're supposed to. It's weird.

It would be good to go somewhere else afterwards. It would also be very rude to walk out mob handed halfway through the night when the ABC firm had finished their little bit, there still would be other performers on the bill surely. Mind you that has not stopped us before. As anyone who witnessed myself, Martin T and Fish at the Ember will no doubt testify. We were all very drunk and loud we were told to shut up. Mr Cook led ashtray and astray of course. Ralph
