Hmm, yes, I know what you are saying. But I am a firm believer that marriage is an institution best achieved between two good friends without unrealistic romantic illusions about each other...it's much better to start out like that, and be surprised when you start to love more deeply over the years. Lust is different, and romanticism is just unrealistic. Lust and fantasy should be part of every healthy person's life, but to attach it to one person alone is asking for trouble.
Oops, I wrote a response to Emma's "Usually when they bugger off with someone else." - then the batteries in my radio controlled mouse packed up and by the time I had replaced them and clicked on post...
By the time you read this post I'll have been to make a cup of tea, washed my hair, had a conversation on msn and posted on numerous other threads by now...oh, and sent a few e-mails!
I agree with you Emma: “I am a firm believer that marriage is an institution best achieved between two good friends without unrealistic romantic illusions about each other...it's much better to start out like that, and be surprised when you start to love more deeply over the years.”
However I wasn't necessarily talking about marriage and certainly not about being sensible.
Maybe once in a lifetime you meet someone who appears to be ‘The One’ - someone who shares your dreams, your hopes, your bed, and becomes your whole world: who makes you feel as though you are the only thing that really matters.
In such relationships love is ALL and has no care for being sensible or realistic.
Sometimes, I imagine, this can mature into a more sensible and realistic relationship, but often because it is becomes too demanding or, perhaps, simply because you grow apart, you are faced with the realisation that you no longer share a common dream and feel betrayed.
The point is that in such relationships feelings are too intense to allow common-sense to prevail and instead of working together to try and achieve a more realistic relationship - feelings of betrayal lead to acrimonious arguments: love can so easily turn to hate.
Yes Flash, but I meant, isn’t that when the feeling of betrayal kicks in - when a relationship ceases to be a feeling of mutual happiness and becomes instead a sense of imprisonment?
Pi, HOPE? Then aren't we right back where we started...why is she feeling betrayed if she still HOPES for him to "wake up"....or is she trying to make him feel guilty, or perhaps enlighten him, HOPING that will turn the trick?
What's betrayal got to do with someone still holding on to hope?
I’ve slept poorly - since I still miss your scented presence in my bed.
I’m not ratted - but I still see you areola in the clouds of the evening peppered skys.
I’m not ratted - but I wonder through fields that are the pubic grass that lead me to your cave.
I am not ratted - and discover that the fields no longer lead to pleasure only to roads of unhappiness.
I am not ratted - and regret the sober light of the lonely sun that illuminates my loneliness.
I am not ratted - and I miss the comfort of that warm, happy, comfort that pretends that love is sleeping.
I am not ratted - but I soon will be - as reality holds nothing but the sadness of my loneliness.
Ahhhh, I’m ratted, and I remember why I live and why I love...... it’s to laugh and to chuckle.... and to wonder if I could write a better Stella advert than the bloody awful one they’re using now ;o)

Stop annoying your potential drinkers, Stella, and inspire them!
I should point out to Stella Artois and their promotional staff - that my email tag has long since been abandoned and disused... and that most people at ABC could dream up a far better advert than the bloody awful creation that makes everyone, that isn‘t already ratted, cringe and feel like changing channel.:)

It's the brand name of the transfusion drip-feed he is hooked up to 24/7. To the rest of us, it's a crappy continental lager, much-loved of those that frequent footbawl matches, rowdy pubs and anywhere else thugee trouble erupts, Shelagh.
Nice to have you acknowledge me as an expert in any field, George :)
To be honest I prefer the fields with long grass where you and your lover can lay down and let the gods make love....
Well, Mykle, I think maybe you stayed in an over intense relationship too long, and that it didn't wear itself out as quick as such relationships often do naturally; that it was too long drawn out. You also have to be careful HOW you feel you are in love...often it can be for the wrong reasons, the answers to which you can only find in yourself, through complete honesty. Many people thrive on tortured relationships for various reasons, stringing them out for as long as the torture can appear authentic.
My advice - find your soulmate, make a home together, always be honest and the best of friends...then sprinkle on a bit of fantasy to keep your libido happy (of course everyone's libido varies and some need more than others to spice up their lives).
Eternal Sunshine is a good film. It got me back into a commercial cinema.
It was very funny to be there - half the audience were Jim Carrey fans who just didn't get it (although, to be fair, it did get them talking about it all as they tried to figure it out as they left) and the other half were your usual arthouse cinema crowd (Nick Cave was two rows in front of me) who felt it was a good attempt at arthouse cinema from Hollywood.
Kate Winslett is excellent, the timing and sequencing are excellent, the story is somewhat contrived and misses the opportunities to say something deeper (but that's Hollywood for you) but what disappointed me was the picture framing. Insufficient use of accepted and recognisable art images! Ooer, now I'm disappearing up my own rear end but I like arthouse films -and not much else at the cinema. Five hours long, subtitles and nothing happens - that's the way I like it, uh huh uh huh.
Er... what WAS the question, Shelagh? I'm not really serious, in fact most of the time I'm trying very hard to be humourous, it seems my particular brand of humour has been wrongly labelled at the factory.
