"black people are really bad
Apparently there's been another "race row over a Channel 4 reality show¦ I've just read in The Metro that there have been "floods of complaints over racist comments made by one of the contestants of Shipwrecked. I have to say, regarding people who complain to the programme makers¦ aren't they entirely missing the point? Unless they are actually directly promoting these views (and come on, this is Channel 4 ' hardly the PR outlet for the BNP), isn't it more likely, given that reality TV contestants are generally, let's face it, not the brightest sparks in the fuse-box, that when this sort of thing occurs, it will highlight how stupid the protagonists look and therefore actually be good for the cause of ant-racism? If we ban the sorts of programmes which bring everyday racism (and other forms of ignorance and antisocialism) out from behind closed doors, we might continue to kid ourselves that most people are generally pretty tolerant and accepting¦ which is perhaps not quite so true as we'd like to think¦
