Writing is great catharsis. By attempting to put down our feelings we may begin to come to terms with the jumble of emotions we all feel.

It came in too late to make Poem of the Day but it may well make it tomorrow!

I will attempt at some time in the next few days to do it myself but don't post your offerings here in the discussion forum, stick them on the site and let us show the world the power of the written word and the collective imagination.

I find it difficult enough to write about the major events in my own life, let alone those in the outside world. My contribution to this thread is a section of a poem I read by pure chance on Tuesday night. It is from the poem 'A Tale' by Joseph Brodsky. (From the book 'So Forth', published by Hamish Hamilton). To me, it resonates both with Pearl Harbour and New York. Move your artillery! Move your warships! Where is my gorgeous horse? Forward! May God, whom our nation worships, join our brave air force! Yes! cry the warriors. Our job is carnage, ruin, destruction, void. We promise, Sire: we'll find a Carthage and we'll leave it destroyed.
