Music that can make your day - Ólafur Arnalds

There have already been a number of forum posts about the unique relationship between music and writing; about what inspires us to write; what music begets what writing...

I've had a hard time clearing my head over the past few weeks. It's like a thick fog has rolled in around the headstones of my creativity and I've been trying hard to clear it. Perhaps I just need to focus, or maybe I need to eat more veggies - whatever it is, it's leading me down a stoney path to frustration. And yet, a single moment can snap us out of this dogged trance, washing the fog away like suds from a plate. For me, music has come to the rescue again.

I strongly recommend anyone to check out this artist, Ólafur Arnalds. After kicking back with this album for 50-odd minutes, words I didn't think I knew are practically offering themselves up to me.

This song by Einaudi has also served me well:

Well that's sounds like an elixir that should come in bottles and be sold from the back of a cart as a cure-all. Thanks Steve.

It's a beautiful album - very Sigur Ros. I have five of their albums and this is right up there with them. Those Icelanders sure like their moody music!
I'm also a fan of some Sigur Ros work, particularly 'Harf/Heim'. Arnald's album has such a calming effect, just begging the mind to soar. Scratch, I think I'd pay good money for that!
Steve, all that stuff is fantastic and I'll definitely be hunting that Olafur Arnalds album down and buying it! Personally, I love listening to stuff like Neutral Milk Hotel or MewithoutYou, they've got these weird, poetic, artful lyrics that always get my mind working. Any kind of music helps really!

Music is literally my fuel, if i do hear something that stirs me i'm flooded with ideas and dry up when the musical wellspring is off for a while. Sigur ros are awesome, i heard about them after they did music for a dead space trailer, haunting stuff!

M.M - MewithoutYou is a good shout. Their lyrics always intrigued me, especially in 'Catch For Us The Foxes' and 'Brother, Sister'. Both fantastic albums. Zalgradis - music does have a knack of filling us up, so to speak. With music and literature I often find one can give way to the other. All inspiration is the same seed; it's the soil you plant it in that differs.
