Story and Poem of The Month

Our picks for the month of February, very kindly chosen for us by marandina:

It is an honour to be asked to choose the monthly picks for February at ABCTales.com. With so much high quality work, my plan was to list all stories and poems posted in February - welcome to the People’s Republic of marandina. But then I realised that would make this blog entry a bit long. So instead, I surfed the waters of the weekly and daily picks. If this process excludes your wonderful piece of work then apologies and please forgive me.

So to the poetry category.

Honourable mentions to:

Ewan for his thought provoking, urban reverie whilst out walking “Looking Down and Up” https://www.abctales.com/story/ewan/looking-down-and

onemorething for her immaculate and haunting updated take on a Grimm’s fairy-tale https://www.abctales.com/story/onemorething/tale-six-swans

Di Hard’s stunningly beautiful February Rainbow https://www.abctales.com/story/dihard/february-rainbow

and JupiterMoon’s carefully crafted, seasonal piece “Imbolic”

https://www.abctales.com/story/jupitermoon/imbolc-0

It was so hard to pick a Poem of the Month but the one that made me stop and think the most was “Firepower” by lenchenelf - a childhood reverie in keeping with recent world events both apt and poetically reflectivehttps://www.abctales.com/story/lenchenelf/firepower

And now to the story category.

Honourable mentions to:

hudsonmoon for his uplifting tale of pigeon love in the Big Apple https://www.abctales.com/story/hudsonmoon/renaldo-love

Simon Barget’s brilliantly imagined and enigmatic “Fame” https://www.abctales.com/story/simon-barget/fame

Jane Hyphen’s wonderfully written and ongoing series “Parables of Clippety” https://www.abctales.com/story/jane-hyphen/parables-clippety-4-jellyfish

The consistently fantastic Rosaliekempthorn and her chilling “The Edge of the Forest”

https://www.abctales.com/story/rosaliekempthorne/edge-forest

and maddan’s atmospheric and gripping “A Persistent Ghost” https://www.abctales.com/story/maddan/persistent-ghost

Again, it was incredibly difficult to choose a Story of the Month but having re-read the short list several times, the one I felt had an exceptionally high standard of writing was this extract from a future novel of Drew Gummerson’s and his beautifully crafted “Falling Upwards” https://www.abctales.com/story/drewgummerson/falling-upwards

It was pleasure to read such high quality material from so many people. The site is something of an oasis for writers and a fabulous community of like-minded yet wonderfully diverse writers.

Long may it continue to prosper!
