Rio Comes 5th.

It was a long drive to Dieppe and an even longer trip back late on Friday. Eurotunnel were experiencing problem and we had a six hour delay. What should have been a 20.50 train back turned out to be a 01.30 train back. Anyway, back to Rio.
He came 5th. I'm dissapointed but also releived. He came back safe and sound although puffing a bit at the end. He's still only four and still growing and developing and this was his first time over the big fences. Some of the other French runners had been flat race horses last year and won some considerable amount of money on the flat. So their speed was better than his. Although his jumping was by far the best of anything else in the race. 5th still got us in the prize money so that was a bonus as well. He'll have a rest now for a few weeks and then we'll think about his next race. Most likely again in France and then back to the UK.

5th isn't bad. You can buy a new engine for the horse. And he's safe and well. I was going to say I once came 5th in a race, but ahem I always came first.
Rio
Well done Rio and congrats Joe. You should never be disappointed with a result like that from a young and inexperienced horse. He sounds promising.

Your right CM, 5th isnt bad. Prize money of 1200 euros. MIGHT just pay for his trip. But we had a great time. 48 hours in France, four blokes on the lash. Great stuff.

Thanks Moya, I suppose I was disappointed because I honestly thought he could win it. But there's always a next time.
