York Reading Event: Calling All Readers

Hello everyone!

I am a little concerned that only one member has expressed an interest in wanting to read at this event (the details of which appear on the site's front page).

I guess I should make it clear that I would like to read as I haven't already done so myself! So Tony, please put my name on the list.

Come on you Northerners, sign up and support this.

Please.

All the best,

Scratch.

Can I do a reading via satellite? lol. I hope it's a success, scratch. Wish I could be there. Rich

I'd like to read by satellite too- have a great evening. ;)Pia
Hud's, Pia, Why not? Seriously. Perhaps not a live satellite link but if you email me a jpeg or other video file of you reading your chosen work I could set up my laptop and data projector and you could read for us - I think that it would be fantastic to do that. Let's do it? What do you say?

That might just be a good idea Scratch. I'll try to set something up on my PC and send it to you. Would it be okay if it was a youtube link? ;)Pia
Yes of course it would Pia! In no tech' whiz by any stretch of the imagination but I am sure that it could be done. Feel free to contact me through the site link and we can discuss the best way to progress.

Sounds like fun, scratch. Maybe I could read a Craven piece. Or even write a song for the occasion on the ukulele. I'm no great shakes at writing songs, but I'd give it a shot. The great thing about doing something like that? If it's good, you'll get a laugh. And if it's bad, you'll probably get a bigger laugh. lol. If Pia's willing, I'm willing. Let me know, scratch. Rich

Absolutely definitely Rich. Like I said to Pia, contact me through the site and well sort out the logistics. Excellent.

Join in Stan. Send me a sample and you can have an airing in York as well.

Hey, I'm up for that. Maybe the audience can also be represented by laptops. Not sure who's getting the drinks in though. I owe you one from last time scratch.

Do you? Bloody hell, I must be getting old, I had no idea. Yet again..... As I recollect now you mention it, you had several brandy and babychams whilst I drank mild. I recall your piratical gleam each time I was sucked in to buying yet more. The landlord shed a tear on my behalf and even offered to go fifty fifty for my taxi money but then he checked and didn't have £90 in the till. 8D

Absolutely correct V' But as earlier - I'm no tech savvy person. There is still time to get people there in body as well I hope. I already have Pia's you tube link. But no way is it getting posted here without express permission. It's fab! Come on you Northerners, get to the mucky duck - you know you want to.

Yes come on you Northerners if we're going to keep this event going then approach and be recognized. The first one of these last summer was a wonderful evening. It was a first for me and one never forgets one's first, if you'll excuse me but it is true. I think it was PJ who suggested we video it as they do at UK Authors and Gold Dust where incidentally one of my poems was read out by the editor of Gold Dust Magazine and the same poem also went in their Anthology and I often look at it on YouTube. So I think this video link is a really good idea especially as it means people who live abroad can take part too. I emailed Sooz to tell her about it and she has pencilled it in but her work at the moment is running her ragged. So come on everyone it could be use it or lose it! Moya

Nice one Stan.

We do need more readers for York. Email me at tcook@abctales.com if you would like to perform - it's a very supportive atmosphere and I can guarantee that you will enjoy it!
I think the first suggestion is a really good one Stan. I'm less keen on a chat room per se. I think that they can be a real distraction. However you have got me thinking. For those interested perhaps it might be possible to group-choose five poems/prose pieces say, all linked to you tube and then have a synchronous discussion about them. This is the sort of constructivist process that we were discussing in the thread the other day. This successful model exists in many universities that are engaged in 'distance learning' modules. It's just a thought. As to the logistics; I wouln't have a clue mate. Thanks for the suggestion Stan. And please to members reading this thread, if you can get to the York reading please do so.

Marvellous! The cab driver turned up with a four-in-hand dead drunk and it took you four days to cross the Pennines in white-out fog following a shoot-out with renegade canoeists holed up in Salt's Mill. But what a night. Wish I could get.
