15.11.13 Story, Poem and Inspiration Point of the Week

We have two fantastic pieces for you this week.

Our poem of the week is Ed Crane’s ‘Charlie’s Going Home,’ an incredible sonnet written in honour of his grandfather’s experiences in the war. Sonnets are always difficult to get right, but this one reads smoothly and it hits its mark simply and sharply.

Our story of the week is BlackJack Davey’s ‘A Chicken That Shares Our Values’. This is more than just well-written, it’s reflective and surprising, and will make you think twice about the absurdities of the everyday (like the eponymous Waitrose description of dinner – how could a chicken share anyone’s values?). Both are a treat to read and come highly recommended:

We had some great responses to last week’s IP, which was a tricky one, and this week we’ll do something simpler:

As always, if you have any questions about the site, or suggestions for picks of the week or an inspiration point, please get in touch with me at luke@abctales.com.

I take it having fun with it can mean changing it a bit! Rh
