Back to School

I'm putting in my application for my MA in Bioethics and I'm a bit apprehensive. It's such a big commitement in time and money (although I'm doing it 2 years part -time so won't have to give up work). A part of me wonders whether it'll be worth it (I know so many people who dropped out of their PhD programme's because Scientific Research jobs in this country are so poorly paid). But my hope is that I could one day work in an advisory role to the churches because there are so many decisions made and stances taken in total or partial ignorance.

I went back to College 2 years ago and did a Post Grad diploma in philosophy so I know I am capable but it is hard work! Yikes! Although it is far easier now than when I did my first degree in the pre-internet era! I remember having to wade through archives of journals the size of ballrooms!

I meant programmes not programme's of course. One thing I need to improve is my grammar and punctuation! jude "Cacoethes scribendi" http://www.judesworld.net

Hi Jude Good luck to you. Years ago I went back to do an MA, two years part time, after ten years out of academics and it was the best thing I ever did - opened up a whole new area of life, lead to a change in career...although the changes took a while to kick in because I got pregnant half way through the course! Ironic as it was a Womens Studies course... It's never wasted. Go for it and enjoy it. M
I couldn't agree more - I have long haroured a desire to do an MBA but have just been too bogged down in business to do it. If you get the chance and can do it, then go for it girl!
Yes, do! I mean, if it all gets too much, you don't have to stick it out till the end, do you...? Sorry, that's not very positive thinking... Go for it!! :) pe ps oid ... What is "The Art of Tea"? ... (www.pepsoid.wordpress.com)

The All New Pepsoid the Umpteenth!

i guess you just really need to want to do it. It's hard as i am sure you know. i did my degree part-time while working and getting pregnant twice! it worked because i really wanted to learn, the career change came about, for me, as an unforseen consequence. But then i started two MA's and never finished either because my heart wasn't really in it. And now i find writing is the 'study' that i want to do. good luck either way. Juliet
