Those feelings of emotional torcher, that menacing danger. One day you would grow up to be a man, a mouse no more, but still suffering the scars of those memories.

I love the idea of the story coming from the road itself. I think if old roads could speak, what a story they'd have to tell, of the history behind how it started out and what it then became is like an autobiography, which you described so well...

had to look up on the internet about the Old Man of Coniston, never having heard of it before. Your description gave a sense of understanding about the natural beauty and the wildness which was so inviting.
