Summer Event

I'm thinking of trying to organize a Summer event- I'm thinking outdoors (ideally near a lake!), drinks and nibbles and being more of a social thing, but with opportunity to read work out should people want to.

I was thinking of trying to do it in Brighton countryside but it has been pointed out to me that more people may be up for it if it was nearer London, however, Brighton really is not that far from London on train and there are more 'green areas'!

I'm a complete amateur when it comes to this, I simply like the idea of it and would be happy to spend (reasonable) money on hiring somewhere (I also think prices would be more realistic if out of London area)- donations towards any such event would of course be accepted!

But these are details to be discussed further should people want to- basically I want to know if anyone is interested in this idea and any feedback would be appreciated.

I have been quite down in the dumps recently and my writing has stalled- having something to focus on in this context could be a useful thing- but if people do not think it is a feasible idea, no problem.

Let me know your thoughts and thanks for reading!

xx

I think it's a very good idea Sundays and I'd love to come if it wouldn't be too hard to get to. I do hope you manage to get out of the dumps, and re-start your writing soon. xx

Yes, a very good idea and I'd be happy to help. I'm not particularly fussed about the location. Rob

new SundaysChild Hope won't be down in the dumps too long I had two weeks things wrong, now great things happening. Hello! Very good idea, but we have no car he can't drive or me. I think it's a great idea SC. I may not be around much this summer, but if I am, you would definitely get me plus two. At the risk of stating the obvious (but based on my experience of organising a big family picnic last year) if you are having an outdoor event, it is good to have a nearby indoor fallback option. This should also remove the stress of wondering whether you should cancel, if the weather forecasts are a bit iffy as you get closer to the event. Sorry to hear you've been down in the dumps. Hopefully the feeling will soon lift. Not sure if this is relevant to your circumstances, but one trick I do if I feel my writing is stalling is to attempt to write the worst possible piece of garbage imaginable - boring, predictable, clichéd, just plain awful for the reader (it seems to come easily to me). I find this tends to get the creative cogs moving again and the problem often eases. I also find that within all the nonsense I've written there may sometimes be the germ of a good idea. Hope that might be of some help.
If you want a place near Brighton then Stanmer Park would be ideal - but tricky for those from out of Brighton to get to. Otherwise you can do it on the beach (everyone else does!) You need a permit to light a fire but that's not difficult to get - the Beach Front office will give you the forms. It's also simple for those from London to get to. We've a heap of members from the Brighton area but not as many as we have in London. A friend of my wife's used to hold an 'art event' every year on the beach and it worked very well - but it is all weather dependent. Good luck with the writing. Just start is the best advice I can give you.
... and we wouldn't get kicked out at an early hour. We could party till dawn. Wish it could be a little bit further North ... but I want to make a real effort to make the next one, so plenty of notice please, as We'd have to stay over, but yes, in theory, up for it. Wish it was Blackpool though.
