The best day of your life

Am new to the site - hello. Enjoyed all the writing I've seen on here today, surprised at some of the animosity in general there seems to be between strangers so thought I'd post something that might be nice to think about.

Was thinking about how silly and trite it is that people call a wedding day the best day of your life when surely it's the start of something, and if that is the best day that doesn't say much for the marriage does it?

Then I was thinking, what would actually happen on the actually best day of your life?

For me there would definitely be live music of some kind, laughter - lots, seafood, possible several games of cards and someone I love stroking my arm and breathing onto my ear. A very cold gin and tonic and then some Chablis or something - but not so much to get drunk. Just red cheeked and refreshed. And a campfire. And a feather duvet. A sort of 'feeling' rather than definite events.

And Simon Cowell would have been blasted into space along with 1200 mirrors and a scalpal to make him, and the world, a more morally sound place.

What about you?

Animosity? I think you'll find this is the friendliest, most community-spirited of all creative writing forums. Anyway, that aside, what actually happened on the best day of my otherwise meagre existence was I found this site, and it was raining outside too. Pure brilliant. Wouldn't swap it for the world, but might be persuaded to reconsider if Celtic beat Barcelona in the Champions League final.
You'd be wrong if you think I was criticising the site. It seems to be wonderful, and I really respect the people who run it and the ethos. If you read the top posts on the writing forum you will see why what I was talking about...I am new and that was my introduction to the site. That's why I put this thread up, to have a nice introduction to other people on the site and not judge it by what I'd read at first glance. And for people to say hello. I'm not sure if you were saying hello or telling me off.... I'll take it you were saying hello.
LoL. I am new also and I want to say hi to everyone. I have yet to explore the site, but it looks interesting. I use a lil go phone so navigation can be tedious and drawn ovt. Chow.

Hi Eliza, welcome to the site. I see what you mean about the posts that are at the top at the moment, but they definitely don't reflect what this site is like most of the time. There are debates and disagreements but everyone is generally friendly and very supportive. As for best day, I imagine it would be an unexpected day with loved ones with much fun and laughter followed by staying up late writing a story which got a cherry and was then made story of the week on ABCtales. Life doesn't get any better than that. I imagine.
Hello again Eliza, just found the old ding-dong to which you were referring. Seems some of my comrades here have been 'debating' some of the finer points of life in ABCland in their own, erudite, gentleman-like manner. Personally, I still prefer pistols at dawn, but, apparently, Health and Safety have prohibited such actions. Hope you have a lengthy stay here and eh, get involved.
Hi Eliza, welcome to Abctales - great, isn't it? :) My best day would have to be one filled with sunshine, cuddles and laughter - a long, lazy day in a lush green park or on a secluded beach with the people I love. And then what alex says - writing a top-notch poem or story and getting some brilliant feedback. Everyone is really genuinely lovely on here and it's a great place to showcase your work and be introduced to new styles of writing - it's become an extension of myself, this site and it's people, and I'd be lost without it. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Going to take a look at your stuff now. The best way to get feedback on your work is to read and comment on others, and of course, great introductions like this help, too - smart move! ;o)
Thank you for the warm welcome everyone.

Hi Eliza and welcome to ABCTales. It is a great community and, generally speaking, its default position is one of support and encouragement. I am going to nominate my wedding day as one of the best days of my life, despite you thinking it is trite (and with which I heartily disagree). I got married on my favourite beach on a beautiful summer's day, surrounded by family and friends. We then went to a local hotel where we ate and drank copious amounts before taking the whole party back to our flat. It truly was a spectacular day and one my wife and I still remember fondly. Yes, we've had some equally good days since (diving on the Great Barrier Reef together was also a brilliant day) and I'm sure we will have more. Any day I can spend time with my wife doing the things we love to do is a good day.

Yes Eliza- you get a warm welcome from me and I hope you get as much out of being a part of this wonderfully inspiring community as I do- as we all do! There are a lot of best days in my life by I like the idea of being in nature with a warm camp fire, maybe a roast wild- boar on the spit, a lot of children having fun and a good mix of people in all ages. I like diving on coral reefs as well- lovely warm water with lots to look at. I think the best days are spent with my kids and the crescendo- giving birth to them. They were really the best days of my life. Good luck and keep writing. kind regards Pia ;)
Thank you all for the warm welcomes - including blighters rock (didn't mean to make you feel a stick in the mud :) And feel VERY bad for saying that saying a wedding day is best of life is trite now Dynamaso.... My own wedding day was spectacular in its simplicity and the overwhelming joy we both felt about getting married. My issue was definetly with the pressure put on people to have the best day of their life... Some really nice stories from all of you as to the best days of your life. Interesting that none of us wanted to spend them alone eh :)
Surely, every day, each and every one, should be the best day in your life - because, only in the now-ness of now, can something be really best. Past and future are just shadows of the glory of present - even if that present is numb or recyclable - that's not the issue - what's the issue is to feel is the best when you can feel it in you, skin and heart - in past- or future-ness, you can't do that. Not to the same degree at least. The challenge is to build the life where each day can be the best that that day can be ... And, NOT to accept that challenge is to not build that figure of self e'en better. To say that was the best day of our life is to recline away from the future, as some kind of glorious sunset, and not as dawn ... To dawn daily is to be; to nestle in some perfection of past is to die. Surely the best day is when you are disgruntled with the past and want to re-think everything ... And yes, sometimes, solitudine can be the best, because it is a kind of revolution from the dictates of socialisation as some kind of specialness of self. Period! ;)

Tomorrow.
.. never comes? *why do i get an 'access denied' on this? is it cuz ... ?*
