I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

Full of life and character -

There's a lot to be said for simple, angry and direct. We need more of it.

This just about sums it up for me. Thank you.

A wonderful piece, Penny. I've had four cats, two sets of two, over the years, down to the last one now! Like your husband, I wasn't brought up with animals, and got the first moggies only because my kids were desperate for a pet and we weren't...

What a wonderful story -

What a wonderful story - thanks for putting in the link. I wasn't aware of this before. That last verse brings a definite little prickling of the eyes. It'sgreat to know that, for once, our species is showing respect and love for another.

As you say, Paul, so hard to believe the equinox is very nearly here! I hate the long nights, so I literally take note every day of how much more daylight we've had until we reach the equinox. It always raises my mood. Such a lovely binding...

The fact that you can take

Posted on Sun, 07 Mar 2021

The fact that you can take something so traumatic and turn it into a thing of such beauty says so much about your power as a writer and a person.  Thanks for sharing it, Rachel.

And as both someone's child and someone's parent, I've always...
