Really liked the effect of the rhythm and rhyme. They express the desperate way so many turn to all sorts of notions to give structure to the world. The last stanza captures the calm of those who have found their own answers.

I'm fascinated by this. There's shades of Doctor Moreau, and the dialogue is very evocative of time and place. I think it needs a bit of editing - it's a bit too wordy in places and you lose the pace. But it's well worth the effort...
