I'm not sure I can see many changes from the first one I read before. But I must admit that the dog theme came through again to me - dander up, cuffed, grabbed you by the hair. But to him, she probably meant less than his dog....
I too thought this was a wonderful way to remember a holiday together with someone you care a great deal for, and then you give away a bit more information at the end with a hint of mystery.
I hadn't read this before, but as I was reading the comments, I wondered if some of the others had missed the subtext. I thought it was a really difficult trip - maybe a daughter who had married someone from...
Sorry I didn't get to this sooner, as I prefer reading prose to poetry. And I know how disheartening it is to write something and have nobody acknowledge that they have read it.
This poem from start to finish is so beatifully done. The reader can feel the grass and see the sky and appreciate the feelings of the poet. I always wonder whether animials who mate for life have any side issues in the meantime -...
