This is the twin piece to the one I read yesterday, and just as biting in its message. But even in ths country, people kill lobsters live and listen to the noise they make as they go into the boiling water.
As usual, a lovely poem, with all your talent on show. I like it when you tell a story, and even though it often ends in sadness, it is good to do the journey.
I suppose they felt that the married women would soon get pregnant and then want to leave in the middle of the term. No birth control in those days, and a typical family had at least 7 children with many up to 13 or so....
I really like your choice of words in this perfect description of our miserable weather. We have thick freezing fog here today. I like the idea of the mizzle rubbed out by the black.
