When I was in the 3rd grade I decided I wanted to be a writer. I don’t remember who told me that I wouldn’t be able to make a living as a writer, but it stuck. As I grew up I heard all kinds of advice about getting a “real job” and having a career. So I did. I worked my way up through corporate ladders, and now I am an analyst.

Then I had an epiphany. I started thinking about what I could do to make myself more marketable for the next step of my career. I realized that I had experience; the only other thing I could do was get a formal education. As I sat there looking at the computer science and business degrees I realized… I didn’t want to do it. I never did. And then, just as suddenly, I remembered what I’ve wanted to do since the 3rd grade. Call me crazy, but career driven single mother that I am, I’ve finally decided to be a writer.
