Coward and wanderer Rekamé Araxes, in the shadow of his usurper brother, attempts to flee his family's complex struggles for dominion over the Land of Pearls, only to find in the great forest of Chaparralion something far more enticing than just a throne.

Rekamé Araxes, younger brother to the recent usurper of the Land of Pearls, "Pureus II", a man Rekamé nostalgically remembers as Pántoko, retreats into the Great Forest of Chaparralion for solace and sanctuary. Yet, running from his responsibilities proves only to dig into his baser temptations, as the surreal nature of Chaparralion reveals to him that which would make men lust and murder far more than for just a throne.
