My stories

Gillian

Mum stood at the door looking anxiously, first at the clock, next at Gillian's hemline. I think it was just starting to dawn on her that perhaps there was another kind of party after all. 'Have fun,' she said with a shakey voice, her hands clasped tight by her navel. I waved goodbye and we headed up the road.

Seven Minutes

Sally looks at her watch: 6:35. She tuts and takes another sip of tea. 'Sally!' 'Hey Sally!' He waves frantically from the front of the cafe. She looks down quickly, stares into her mug.

The Good News

The bad news is we're out of milk, but the good news is far worse than that.

Familiar

In a strange city, on an unfamiliar street, I hear my name and turn, to see a face both smiling and awkward.

Running Home

Jamie gets a tattered piece of paper out of one of his pockets and puts it on the white plastic table in front of Brian. He points at the scrawled ink that covers it, 'That's me squat,' he slurs, 'gimme a fiver an' you can stay there too.'
