I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

Thanks for this, Ewan. Yes

Thanks for this, Ewan. Yes indeed, we all know at least one Butch. The only sport I'm remotely interested in is tennis, but the women's Euros were just a generally joyous event. It felt like quite a sombre IWD this year, so many backward steps in...

Very cleverly done. The old lady and her ring, both denied their right to sparkle, for now. I particularly loved 'she was locked away in another dimension, walking in a rich forest of memories where age was immaterial and material objects had no...

Catching up on this, and it's a real page-turner! I love all the details you put in, about the way she keeps the chain on the door to start with, ramps up the tension. Looking forward to seeing what comes next!

Sorry to hear you've been unwell, Rhiannon, and glad to know that you're able to get out for walks again, and to share them with us. Interesting to look back at photos from previous walks and see what changes and what remains the same.

This is really beautiful, Di,

This is really beautiful, Di, a wonderful song to the coming of spring. The Persephone myth was always one of my favourites too. And your poem captures a lot of how I feel now the days are drawing out and we're emerging from the winter darkness....

I wouldn't choose Earl Grey,

Posted on Sun, 19 Feb 2023

I wouldn't choose Earl Grey, but I can drink it if offered in someone's house. I really don't get on with herbal teas, though. They always taste like slightly rancid water to me. And I've tried all sorts. I think it's because, decades ago, I...

Love the poem and the picture

Posted on Mon, 13 Feb 2023

Love the poem and the picture. My legs are what they call 'sturdy'. I used to hate them with a passion, now I love them to bits because they're still working when friends with more shapely pins have had to have bits replaced. Hooray for Tesco...

As everyone has said, this so

As everyone has said, this so wonderfully brings a time and place to life. Such beautiful phrases - among many, I was very taken with the bells 'swinging in the sixties'. So clever! Lovely writing.
