I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

Oh my goodness, this was one of my favourite fairy tales when I was younger, and you don't often hear about it now. As ever, you have crafted it into something totally original, while retaining the feel and mood of the original. And what a...

I'm loving this, reading with a smile on my face, lots of chuckles, and at least one coffee-spurt each episode. Last time it was 'not all people in publishing are people', this time it's Justin James. Keep them coming.

You've really captured the atmosphere of the Tor so well. It's many years since I've been, but this vividly brought it all back. I get the same feelings around standing stones - I was interested to read Jenny's comment about Avebury, which has a...

Delightful! Thoroughly enjoyed it. Some marvellous (no pun intended) superhero and supervillain names and characters. Great piece of writing.

There's always so much meticulous research in these pieces, Jean. I didn't know anything about Newman's interest in music. You always provide an interesting starting point for further investigation by your reader!

Beautiful language. I too was particularly struck by the image of the stars scattering, so it's interesting what you say about wolves eating the stars. Also the last two lines, 'together there is a way through the forest' really evoked that image...

This really evoked a memory
Posted on Tue, 18 Jan 2022
This really evoked a memory in me, Jenny - I think I must have gone there as a child, even though I can't actually remember the occasion. Poetry does that for us - brings up memories and emotions that are normally lying just below the surface....

Enjoyed reading this - and the discussion below! So many things that were mainstream Labour policy some years ago are now viewed as extreme left threats to civilisation. And of course, if you suggested nationalising the railways again, there...

With you all the way on this

With you all the way on this one. It's obscene. I'm all for people being entrepreneurial, and if they want to buy a yacht that's fine, but when it gets to this level of wealth, there is something seriously wrong. I really like your metaphor of...

This is great - so much

This is great - so much lovely detail and your central idea, of the different coffees evoking different memories, is marvellous. I finished the story feeling that I really wanted to see this gentleman sitting by the window, quietly drinking his...
