I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

Oh Jean, it all sounds very complicated! So glad your daughter is there to keep an eye on it all.
Sometimes I think it's only when we hear we're low in something that we realise we had any of it in the first place. Phosphorous is not...

Our current lot are indeed a right carry-on, or as Terry-Thomas would have had it, an absolute shower. Somehow I think your surreal romp probably makes a lot more sense than what actually goes on in L'Enfant Terrible's mind.
I did notice,...

Very well done, Di. It's all so bloody terrifying. The world feels far too complicated to understand sometimes, but in fact it's horrifically simple: money talks, louder than anything else.

Yes, another book! How lovely of you to think of others at this time, and write to that family.
Totally inappropriately, I couldn't help giving a smile at 'as long as you weren't waiting for both eyes to blink'. Humour sometimes gets us...

Lovely, Penny. I can see and hear the garden, and the way you weave the thoughts about balance and sharing makes this a really rich tapestry. Genuinely brightened up my afternoon!

I've caught up with all these remarkable pieces now, Jean - I'm so sorry to hear what a difficult time you're having. Thank you for sharing this with us. As others have said, you have such a measured and calm approach, although maybe it doesn't...

My son's partner is Swedish, and taking off your shoes in the house is customary there - we've all been very firmly taught that this is one custom she has definitely brought to the UK with her! When I was a child I was always taught to take my...
