I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

Great build up of tension, with the description of heat adding to it as it goes along, and then the shocking conclusion. Looking forward to the next part.

I had no idea that you moved in such exalted circles, Rich! Cameron AND Stewart - you have all my sympathy. That we have come to such a pass here that Rory Stewart seemed like the only sane option. I have been following the Democrat debates...

The bunkers certainly weren't intended for us common folk! I remember how they banned 'The War Game' from the telly because they thought it would scare people so much we would all rise up and demand disarmament. I saw it at a film club a few...

Welcome to the site. And what better debut on a writing site than a horror story all about words! I think quite a few of us probably suffer from Etyopathomania. I really, really want to find a copy of the Humongous Collation of Proverbs and...

I do like those last two lines. Sometimes it does feel as though those shadows are following us through life. One or two decisions either way and everything might have been different.

Agree with Jenny - it does have a pre-Raphaelite feel to it. Lovely take on the IP, really enjoyed reading it.

As we take over more of the countryside, more and more animals are forced to scavenge in towns. Foxes can be very successful, but it's far from an ideal environment for them. A thoughtful and sympathetic poem.
I love the way this IP...

Sometimes, if we knew the end
Posted on Sun, 19 May 2019
Sometimes, if we knew the end, we'd never start - but then we'd miss all the good bits in between. A very poignant response to the IP.
