Hello! I am an old crone who very much enjoys reading SF, urban fantasy and horror. I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. My new website is currently under construction, and you are cordially invited to come and have a peep at the blogs and free stories there. You can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

I bloody well wish I'd done this to mine before I retired.  She's a woman, but I think in her case the ping pong balls are where her heart should be.  Either that or a lump of sulphur.

Great stuff.

The influenza epidemic of

Posted on Fri, 26 Oct 2018

The flu epidemic of 1918 killed millions of people, far more than the first world war did, so if the powers that be really want to reduce the population, stopping the flu jab would be one of the best ways to do it.  The jab is isn't perfect, it...

I was delighted to see this

Posted on Sun, 21 Oct 2018

I was delighted to see this piece.  Peterloo is a much neglected part of our history.  My kids, one of whom took History GCSE, were never taught anything about it at school, or indeed about the Chartists or the Tolpuddle Martrys.  Or Tom Paine. ...

I think my younger self would

Posted on Sun, 30 Sep 2018

I think my younger self would probably be appalled at me, but I'd try to reassure her with that George Eliot quote:  It is never too late to be what you might have been.

That's a horrible situation

Posted on Tue, 09 Oct 2018

That's a horrible situation to be in.  I've been in similar, it really does sap your confidence and your energy, and it's shocking that your management won't do anything about it.  There's some useful information from ACAS here:  ...

Posted on Sat, 01 Sep 2018

Thought provoking piece, Rhiannon, and certainly struck a chord with me.  I get particularly fed up with the constant excuse 'Ooops, I misspoke'.  Well think what you're saying before opening trap or putting fingers to keyboard then!  And yes,...
