I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

This struck a real chord with me, having last year moved on from our old family home, the kids having done likewise some time ago. I kept telling myself how daft it was to love bricks and mortar so much, especially when not all the memories were...

Congratulations - wonderfully written. The description of Brooksy as a breakable glass animal is beautiful and effective and a sad precursor. You've caught so well that thing that happens, when music at the time doesn't do a lot for you, and...

I'm absolutely melting with these two. I just want to build a wall round them and keep the world away. Possibly my favourite line is 'he ginned as if he'd given birth to her' - tells you so much about him, and what he wants, and his feelings...

Well spotted! I don't know where the trainers came from. She's far too sensible to wear trainers in the snow. She's now changed into appropriate footwear.

Good ending, racheting up the tension even more. I am very interested to see how these characters will develop - keeping multiple characters going is hard work! Do keep on with this, looking forward to seeing more.
