Hello! I am an old crone who very much enjoys reading SF, urban fantasy and horror. I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. My new website is currently under construction, and you are cordially invited to come and have a peep at the blogs and free stories there. You can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

Enjoyed the rhythm of this, and sense of fun.  In this weather it's all too easy to feel that the keyboard is the best option!  A lovely Christmas message.

I very much enjoy your style

I very much enjoy your style of writing and it fits well with this classic form of horror.  There is an archness about it which makes the reader smile and you manage to convey a feel of the domestic set-up.  The only caveat I have is that the...

Bonkers but captivating.  I like it.  It's surreal, but still has a purpose, tells a story and is very funny at times.  I've enjoyed it more each time I've read it.

As a prose writer who's scared to death of writing poetry (though I love reading it) I recently, and by accident, signed up for a poetry course.  I've really enjoyed it and they've put us through our paces, having a bash at villanelle, sestina,...

Elsie, I think this is wonderful.  Beautifully observed and beautifully controlled, with all the details showing us these lives, the rhythm of friendship. Warm and true, with that touch of wryness.

Beautifully controlled, with the richness of the detail enabling the reader to see, hear and taste the scene.  Sharp and lyrical at the same time.

Really exciting chapter.  The paragraph beginning 'She was feeling dizzy...' is particularly effective - there was something horrific in the image of Johnson's 'pale face' just staring at her.  I admire the way you are racking up the action while...

I found this really moving, Jean.  The careful and restrained way Toyo tries to maintain decency and a sense of normality in such an impossible situation, and the powerlessness of all the internees, is beautifully drawn.  I'm really enjoying...

Interesting comments on the different way German and Japanese internees reacted to the situation.  I've recently been re-reading The Man In The High Castle, Philip K Dick's alternative history where the Axis won the war and America is divided...
