I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

Wonderful use of the words - read aloud, the sounds really evoke both the storm and the calm afterwards.

Wonderful imagery and very apt for our times.  It's interesting how those ancient tales adapt so easily to our modern dilemmas.  Great poem.

'...each friend of those golden days in us glitteringly blaze' is a lovely image.  It's good that old friends can meet after so long and put aside the differences in their lives.  As in your previous poem, there's a real sense of the passage of...

Sounds like they're both

Posted on Mon, 03 Apr 2017

Sounds like they're both better out of a very mutually destructive relationship.  The ambivalence in the portrayal of the wife is interesting, although for me it seemed as though you yourself weren't really sure of who she was, and as a reader...

I like this for the way it shows that domestic violence is no respecter of class or money, and that violence distorts human relationships.  Claire may be staying in the marriage for reasons other than love, and no-one would blame her for getting...

Really liked the effect of the rhythm and rhyme.  They express the desperate way so many turn to all sorts of notions to give structure to the world.  The last stanza captures the calm of those who have found their own answers.

A blast of anguish, heartfelt and bleak.  There's a real feeling of powerlessness and desperation.
