I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

I found this really moving, Jean.  The careful and restrained way Toyo tries to maintain decency and a sense of normality in such an impossible situation, and the powerlessness of all the internees, is beautifully drawn.  I'm really enjoying...

Interesting comments on the different way German and Japanese internees reacted to the situation.  I've recently been re-reading The Man In The High Castle, Philip K Dick's alternative history where the Axis won the war and America is divided...

I wasn't too sure about this when it started, but the details of the pool hall and the game were fascinating and really carried me along.  I'm not too sure about the ending.  I liked the way you set it up as 'old guy meets his young nemesis' and...

It does sound  easy, but it never is.  Loved the line 'The stretcher bearers are silently carrying the dead away. Reason lost another battle last night.'  I hope the narrator finds a way through.

I really like the way this explodes the popular view that people on the autistic spectrum 'don't feel' - to begin to understand how  or what they feel needs others to consider a totally different way of seeing the world.  The lack of support...

I really like the play on words and the way you describe that overwhelming pull of attraction, even when it is 'wrong'.

Very well paced, packed full of information but not overloading the reader.  Particularly like the way the dialogue develops and gives insight into the characters.

This is great - the sense of unease is beautifully maintained, with Weasley giving the reader shudders and our concern for Kit growing all the time.  Excellent cliffhanger ending.  Please do keep posting more of this, it's so good.

Nice start to this.  I like the characters and the questions raised by the arrival of the 'cursed' ship.  The set up really holds together.
