I am a Brummie living in Northampton. I love to write but get distracted with other things. I enjoy horror/fantasy and anything that provokes original thought. My literary heroes are Clive Barker, Stephen King, Edgar Allan Poe and HP Lovecraft.

I think that everyone should read George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-four .

I have short stories published in a horror anthology by @thealienbuddha, anthology Vol.IV by @LoftPublishing and flash fiction at @paragraphplanet.

Poems of mine have been published by @thealienbuddha (The Alien Buddha Gets Rejected) and @blackboughpoems (Winter-Christmas Anthology 2023).

I have new stories published in 2023 by @darkwinterlit and @thealienbuddha (Halloween anthology and ABZ55 at ABP) along with appearing in an anthology by @LoftPublishing (Anthology Vol V).

You have captured the juxtaposition of a woman attractive in capturing attention yet age taking its toll and masked with heavier make up. I can see through the low light and it's a sad but probably realistic image. Paul

It seems unfair to be attacked like that in Justin Mcacathy's book but I guess these things happen. It seems many held reservations about John Bowring's dealings in China, as well. This must have been a lot of work for you, Jean. Possibly a...

John Bowring certainly packed such a lot into his life and interesting that differing views were taken of his many endeavours. It looks like the Suffragettes were becoming more prominent at this point in time.

"...like satin gloves in rapturous applause.." This is wonderfully written with an ominous last line. A very well deserved POTD!

Gosh what a busy entry. Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Prince Albert and Emily being my highlights. A sad episode too with so much death. I imagine Emily was missed by many after all that wonderful, selfless work she did.

Sounded like quite a ceremony. I imagine it must be difficult to accept step parents. It's a shame when a wonderful occasion gets overshadowed by bad feelings.
