Richard's Sister Susan Passed Away June 4 pm, 2013

Dear ABC friends---we received the message from my oldest sister, Bonnie that Susan passed away around 4:30 PM at the Trauma Centre in Hamilton, Ontario.

Apparently she came out of her fourth medically-induced coma quite well, and for a day she relaxed, read and had a few visitors. Then suddenly she began to bleed again (her aorta had collapsed recently, losing much blood and causing the need for another induced coma).

This time the plan was to keep her in the hospital until full recovery took place. However she did not recover from this new bleeding and passed away very swiftly. Apparently Dr. Shargall felt so terrible, he held her in his arms and cried like a baby. That is the kind of staff who looked after our dear sister.

Below is a letter being sent out to honour all who participated in prayers, good thoughts and caring for our family. God bless each of you. We truly believe there is much more to this life than the short time spent on earth, and that our Susan is now with our Lord Jesus. Susan was 58.

From Richard and Esther.

Dear Doctor Yaron Shargall,

As the oldest sibling, Susan’s brother, I would, on behalf of our family thank you and your medical team for caring, beyond expectations, for our sister Susan (Provencher) Grech, who passed away July 4, 2013.

We all grieve for such a fine lady, the youngest in our family, who fought so well to regain her health. Susan did not lose the battle, since she provided inspiration to so many. Her sacrifice of survival overcame hurdles, again and again, showing us the power of prayer, from so many, in Canada and beyond.

Yes, a large number of family and friends prayed for her complete recovery, and although it was not to be, we have bonded in ways almost spiritual in nature. We collectively shared stories and good times spent together, and I understand your staff took a special interest in her condition, for which we are deeply appreciative.

From all of us, to you and your staff,

Richard and Esther Provencher

I am so so sorry Richard.

Thank you, Scratch. She was a fighter, eh? Richard & Esther.

I am so sorry to hear this, Richard. My deepest sympathies go out to all concerned. Rich

My condolences to you all. Life ends somewhere for all of us but these wonderful memories, these experiences we share- they are what make our time on earth so beautiful. Regards

Natalia :)

Thank you, Natalia. Life is a continuum and we celebrate the positive---no more pain---enhanced friendships---and new skills for medical staff. Cheers, from Richard

Thank you, Walrus. I got some facts mixed up---a new email re my sister is here, if you don't mind: Sent: Friday, July 05, 2013 2:48 PM Subject: Well, my Dear Suzanne, my ... BAby Sister, Susan, died last night at 12:30 AM. Her AORTA started bleeding again, the Paramedics were there instantly, they tried to help the situation, BUT, could not revive her! Her Specialist said that they came close to saving her, but ............ She was 9 days short of being there for 5 months! Patsy called us at 12:45 with the sad news. After our bawling fest, we agreed that she was definitely in a "Better Place", no more suffering, no more worrying, no more ....................... Funeral Arrangements are being planned & it looks like it'll be on Mon or Tues/1 day for the viewing & the next day, the Burial Mass. In this case we would be leaving on Sun by car to Ottawa-Fallowfield Via-Rail Train Station & then taking the train to Toronto. Someone will be there to pick us up. Susan lives in Toronto. She was in Hamilton because of the Specialist being there/Dr Shargall. All will take place in Toronto. It should be a big affair with all of our Cousins in the area + Susan's Friends & Extended Family (People she has guided through Addiction Problems) her Meditation Group, ... & her only Child, Anthony will be coming from Ireland! AND, my Son, Alain, is flying in from Saskatoon. He always had a special place in his heart for Susan & Mario (Susan's Husband). I am making "Photo Montages" highlighting the different moments of her LIFE!! Planning flower arrangements ... We are 5 children in the Family: Richard 70 (Esther) in Truro, NS Bonita 66 (Bob) in Lake Dore, ON Dennis 65 (Lydia) in Vancouver BC Patsy 63 (Glenn) in Hamilton, ON and Susan 59 (Mario). Our both Parents, Mildred Norris & Adélard Provencher are definitely happy to welcome her to her "New Home"! Take care Everyone, Bonita

Richard my condolences on your loss. It's never easy when someone we love moves on. Given the response here, you have the admiration, respect, support and love of a good number of friends. None of us here can take your sisters place. But I hope that knowing you have the support of so many, will help make the transition of filling that void, a little easier...Wes

You are so right, Wes. You and others are kind to help keep us sane, amid the sadness. God bless all who support our caring. Richard and Esther
