Good point about the language. I'm trying to emulate MR James of course, but at times I end up imitating him which is not the intention at all.

Thanks. The problem with the preamble is I wanted to tell an Indian story with Indian protagonists but if I tried to tell it in an Indian voice it would just come off fake, so I'm left with this slightly complicated setup to justify the English...
