Seventeen-year-old Sean Winston's life is an epic fail. He's the pothead foster child no one understands, who mistook his parents for goddamn burglars and killed them. And he's whisked into an apocalyptic world called Vurr, where a sorceress named Etta forces human children to endure Transformation: demonic alteration in preparation for a Great War. Busting out of Transformation hell is the easy part, because now that he's prey to Etta's flesh-eating emissaries, he finds a disembodied soul with a fatal squeeze on his psyche. With it, he has an advantage over Etta, sure, but he also learns, through the visions it transfers, that his "dead" parents have a secret. Or maybe they're it.
