Hi, I’m Jessica — still in my 20s, learning to balance writerhood and motherhood, one chaotic day at a time. I’ve been writing since I was 12, at most, and joined this site when I was about 15.

Speculative fiction is my first love (think sci-fi, fantasy, and anything a little strange), but I also dabble in the dark and twisty. Poetry, as well, and sometimes something harder to define.

I’m in Canada, but my roots stretch back to the UK through my mum, who was born and raised there. Happy to be part of this community. smiley

Where The Sea Might Take Me

I love this so much. And the line—“she pokes and pokes like she is stabbing a giant to death”.

And Sophia’s breakdown? The “I surrender” moment? Oh, I’ve had that exact thought many times! Resigning to the thought I must be crazy to...

Oh wow—this stopped me cold.

What a beautiful, quietly powerful memory to share.. There’s something so tender about the way you described Paul’s tradition, slipping that £10 through the door like a small, steady light in the dark. And now...

Oh wow—thank you so much! Your comment honestly means more than I can say. I’ve been writing stories since before I was a teenager, but reading this made something click in a way I didn’t expect. I’ve wanted to try publishing again—but...

Thank you so much for your comment, Frances! It means a lot to me. The old couple did sell the house, yes, though it still feels like their presence lingers in a way. I’ve been toying with the idea of turning this into a novella, with several...

This really made me pause.

It’s such a sharp, poetic reflection of how the world is right now — how often we’re caught staring at screens while life, real life, happens around us.

Funny timing, too: just the other day, my son was...

Posted on Sat, 17 May 2025

This one really hit me. There’s something so tender and true in how it unfolds—like how hard things have been, how far they’ve come, and how even something as simple as sharing a meal can hold so much weight. Especially when you’re hurting but...

Hauntingly beautiful, poignant, powerful. The mix of tenderness and darkness lingers like a timeless tale, especially beneath that old oak tree!

Wishing you continued inspiration with your poetry!

This moved me more than I expected. There’s such tenderness in the contrast—bold outside, soft and aching inside. I think a lot of us carry a shade of Red.

Posted on Mon, 28 Jul 2025

There’s a sardonic clarity to this - especially in the second part - that I really appreciated. Like someone peeling away all the romantic nonsense just to say, “Look, I’ve tried, and I’m done.”

The cross, the resignation, the collapse in...
