Hi, I’m Jessica — still in my 20s, learning to balance writerhood and motherhood, one chaotic day at a time. I’ve been writing since I was 12, at most, and joined this site when I was about 15.
Speculative fiction is my first love (think sci-fi, fantasy, and anything a little strange), but I also dabble in the dark and twisty. Poetry, as well, and sometimes something harder to define.
I’m in Canada, but my roots stretch back to the UK through my mum, who was born and raised there. Happy to be part of this community.

I really enjoyed this. The voice is sharp, with tight imagery and strong sensory detail. Tension throughout. You’ve layered history, fear, pride, and loyalty so well—it all lands with impact. Another one for the books!

This was such a vivid, beautiful read—equal parts funny, raw, and moving. The flowers, the coal, the pianos… it’s wild how much memory can live in what others leave behind. Thank you for sharing this.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go...

Thank you so much—I’m really grateful you took the time to read and comment. That means a lot.
I’ve been trying to be more intentional with my poetry lately—more grounded, with clearer visuals that still carry emotional weight underneath....

That paragraph about the U certificate really made me pause. I think I get what you’re saying—that if a child is forced into something so brutal, something that strips them of safety and innocence, then calling it “adult content” feels like a...

That really means a lot, jolono!
You’ve given me encouragement since I was much younger, and reading this honestly feels like a kind of full-circle moment haha. Thank you for that, and for taking the time to read and respond so generously...

Thank you so much for sharing that, Jenny. That cold, long night you described — I felt it in your words.
It means a lot to know the fear in this piece resonated with your experience. What you shared is such a haunting memory — a glimpse...

This was such a delightful and honest read! I really appreciated the way you walked us through the different types of addictions—from the obvious ones like smoking and drinking to the more subtle, personal ones like shopping.
The way you...

This was so vivid—I could practically smell the fire and feel the dust rising between moves. I love the sensory detail, especially the contrast between the communal meal and the formality of “sausage and mash.” That last line especially hit—so...

Thank you—your comment is beautifully written and deeply appreciated.
This piece came from a real place. Writing it was part of trying to make sense of it—to give it shape, and to let others witness something that too often stays invisible...
