My stories

That Face I Begin To See

A red leaf falls Cut loose by the wind Brown heifers low Within stone walls Another night nears Hidden crickets chirp Two Texas steers Watch fowls come home

I Left My Heart

I left my heart Not in a city Nor did I leave it In any town My heart was left Not in a hurry Nowhere high Or on the ground I left my heart Where hearts best thrive--

A Little Poem

A little poem for you, my child Do take a chair and listen Once I saw an Artic seal That, wet, did not have time to glisten Another day I spied a mouse Buying hammers to build a house

His Heart

Looking back, I see that daddy was so happy with his five kids. Mom didn’t need five for her part but she had them. To please daddy, I guess.

The France You Never Got To See

The France you never got to see Has very little ugliness On its mountains baa the sheep In its valleys songbirds cheep. The France you never got to see Still lures us to those Gallic shores
