Hello! I am an old crone who very much enjoys reading SF, urban fantasy and horror. I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. My new website is currently under construction, and you are cordially invited to come and have a peep at the blogs and free stories there. You can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

My stories

Cherry

The Net Caster (Part Eleven)

It hardly mattered in which direction I walked. It was only a matter of time. And there was a figure standing at the end of the street.
Cherry

The Net Caster (Part Ten)

The silver dust coated my skin and lips. A haz-bomb. What contaminants was I taking in through my lungs, my skin, the water I drank?
Cherry

The Net Caster (Part Nine)

Finally, I could start casting a net for Hamish Mansoorian. But the results were impossible.
Cherry

The Net Caster (Part Eight)

I began to shake. The room rippled round me and the options of weeping or going to sleep vied for my attention. Was I a murderer, or just a thief?
Cherry

The Net Caster (Part Seven)

I slid into the mob. Their eyes darted instantly to my face, scanning my forehad, seeking any trace of an Irrevocable Tattoo.

Yes, no longer as picturesque

Yes, no longer as picturesque as you describe, Turlough, but I think they have tried to make efforts to clean it up. It still floods with great enthusiasm.

Lovely poem!

Very enjoyable. Goldilocks was indeed an invader of privacy and a breakfast thief!

This is beautifully

This is beautifully constructed, the driving rhythm capturing the pounding emotions. That feeling of increasing panic and inevitability, and then the release, only for it to start up again. Great piece of work.

And this is the kind of place

Posted on Fri, 19 Jul 2024

And this is the kind of place I would like to spend my time - the chance to covertly spy on other people, but also to just allow imagination to roam free. Beautifully evoked, Paul.

Thank you for this Rhiannon -

Posted on Thu, 11 Jul 2024

Thank you for this Rhiannon - I have been having exactly the same experience! Like you, I couldn't get access to an NHS dentist for a while and when I finally went to a private one recommended to me, I needed a lot of work doing. Extractions,...

Absolutely beautiful, as ever

Posted on Thu, 11 Jul 2024

Absolutely beautiful, as ever, and - also as ever - so much to learn! I knew toads in general were connected with witches and magic, but I hadn't realised the natterjack had such a particular place.

'I dreambeetle by moon's waters' - that...

Really intriguing, Paul. I

Really intriguing, Paul. I think it's great when real life events spark off something as thoughtful as this.

The Henge indeed has seen off a lot worse than this in its time, and as far as I'm aware the orange powder didn't do any real...

Another wonderful piece - I

Another wonderful piece - I feel I'm learning so much about Bulgaria, or at least your corner of it!

Your community sounds so supportive of each other. I don't suppose it's always like that, but it does seem to be pulling together in your...
