I saw on the internet that Backalong was a Somerset or West Country word for a long time ago, although my dad (Somerset born) says he knew it also as meaning 'back over there.'
I might have left it too late for the kenning I.P. and not sure I've got it right anyway as I think they should be more literal. But I was so taken up with the kenning idea that I thought I'd give it a go. Thanks for the idea and hope the I.P. keeps going.
