A Peculiar Collection

Okay, I listened to all the comments, and came out with something a little different.
I've been reading Roald Dahl, and this is a tribute to his story, Lamb to the Slaughter. 1,700 words.
I lay awake in my bed, counting cobwebs on the ceiling; until Jack staggered up to my door and threw it open. “Time to get up,” he grunted. Counting cobwebs must be like counting sheep.
“You seen her?” Tim asked, turning to me. I looked over at the bungalow, thinking. “Not since before the flood.” I finally said.
