A Flower For My Love

I wrote a poem about picking a beautiful flower and giving it to no woman in particular. I think this poem encapsulates the feelings a man has for his partner.

Darkness

I wrote a poem about an alcoholic. It was intended as a joke. My friend said, 'I was an alcoholic. That's exactly what it was like.' He asked someone to read it out in church.

The Tramp On Northumberland Street

A poem I wrote about a tramp who used to live on Northumberland Street in Newcastle. He disappeared after 1992 and I understand his name was Tom and he was killed by a car near Newcastle Airport.

I wrote this poem about a friend who had several relationships with women but frequently left them and seemed to be happy living on the streets of London.

I have spent many years learning to cope with my own depression and helping other people with their's. I came to the conclusion that mental illness is basically unhappiness.

The Lonely Old Woman

I remember an old lady who I looked after when I worked in a hospital. She had no surviving relatives and was particularly distressed about having no one to grieve when she died.

Spirit of the Lord

I wrote the first verse of this song in 1982 and the last 2 verses in 1994. It is an interesting song about the Holy Spirit that has stood the test of time.

The Letter Rhyme

Paul Young wrote The Letter Song and I have tried to update it and bring it into the age of the mobile phone. This is also a satirical version in which the girl tells the boy to get lost.

The Twilight Zone

Is there another dimension? Could you be in two places at the same time? Is there a dimension where all the things that are wrong in the world are actually right?

Scientists have often speculated about how dinosuars became extinct. This poem suggests an interesting alternative theory.
