he doodled on the back of a brown envelope as friday afternoon lethargy grabbed hold of him and wouldn't let go the weekend lay ahead like a warm blanket he wanted to wrap it around himself but it was just beyond his reach he stretched his legs under his desk eager for a destination the sound of a telephone ringing distracted him momentarily giving him purpose a wrong number soon catapulted him back into his state of stupor he slowly moved his sleeve back to reveal his watch tapped on the face urged time forward he watched others in the state of activity vainly hoping for inspiration outside his window the view was still parked cars and no movement as if the whole street had been cemented into one shape
