you capture some of the feelings very well. I would only comment that my wife felt a bit more rage, along with the despair. Even after all the treatment is over, the disease is never really finished with you, because of the after effects.

It's hard to pull off the "in media res" beginning, but you do it superbly here. A great sense of place and character. This is exceptional, and perfect flash-fiction, a jewel just as it is.
