I shaved my head again today. I shave it every couple of months to disguise the fact that I’m going bald.

This Sort of Thing - November 2023 – Second Half

Fyodor Dostoevsky once said. ‘The cleverest of all, in my opinion, is the man who calls himself a fool at least once a month.’ With this in mind I have taken to revealing on the worldwide web the contents of my journal once (maybe twice) a month, allowing fellow worldwide webbers to judge the level of foolery and share their opinion.

This Sort of Thing - November 2023 - First Half

In the words of the great philosopher and visionary, Ronan Keating, 'Life is a rollercoaster, you’ve just got to ride it.' But I'm more inclined to believe that life is a dodgem ride.

Reasons to Be Bulgarian… Naz-dra-vee!

Bulgaria… a paradise that’s maybe a bit rough round the edges. This beautiful country may not be perfect but it’s the perfect home for me and Priyatelkata. We could never live anywhere else. I took my inspiration from Hristo Botev, my lovely neighbours and Ian Dury.

Even older than me

Posted on Sat, 12 Apr 2025

It absolutely amazes me how a living organism can survive so long. Imagine the things it has lived through. I wouldn't want to be an oak tree myself though.

Lovely poem Jenny.

Yeats and Villa

Posted on Wed, 09 Apr 2025

Thanks for that Paul. I pick up the Yeats book from time to time but I'd be fibbing if I said I'd read it from cover to cover. Days with absolutely nothing at all to do are perfect for such literary adventures.

On a totally different...

A gripping end to the first instalment. I feel this is going to be an altogether gripping tale.

Perfidia

Posted on Sun, 06 Apr 2025

I must confess that I've only started reading Willow's Missing Tail quite recently. I'm enjoying the read but a bit lost at times (most times) so I can see that I need to go the very beginning and start from scratch. Don't wait for me though....

Walking free

Posted on Thu, 03 Apr 2025

It's nice to think that humans could walk as free as the untamed creatures. It takes a lot of bottle for us to turn our backs on the superficial trappings that deter us from it while for many there is no choice.

Strong words to describe a...

Kirschkuchen

A few years back I was at the Olympiastadion where Hertha play. It's a fascinating place to visit even for those weirdos who don't like football as it oozes history and style. At first glance it looks like one of those modern all-concrete...

Light Showers

Posted on Sun, 23 Mar 2025

Hello Jenny.

Since the destruction caused here by last summer's giant hailstones I'm all for the words of your poem, particularly the let light showers descend more slowly bit.

I'm sorry I didn't read this sooner. I've been...

Mud

Posted on Mon, 03 Mar 2025

I'm sorry to hear that Di. In such situations the feeling of a loss if dignity is sometimes as hard to take as the pain. But well done the kind man and I'm glad you're feeling better now. And if it was only mud on his posh coat then surely it...

Good health and life

Posted on Mon, 03 Mar 2025

Zdraveh ee zhivot (здраве и живот, meaning good health and life) is a phrase that Bulgarians use every day Jenny, in a sort of 'all the best' way. So I can see that you're into their way of thinking.

Priyatelka's back is fine now. I've...
