The Phoenician is something/one that/who appears in Eliot's "The Waste Land".

It refers to a drowned sailor.

Eliot pinches it from earlier work and probably from works he read about fertility...

Wonderful. I love the subtlety of this and how you ground it early on in a pre-colonial pre-Capitalist respect for the land. It skilfully calls to mind some of the images seen over the last few days. A poem that does its job well. True art.
