I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

As well as the wonderful

As well as the wonderful descriptions you get in these poems, they are always so well constructed, so that the way the words are used, as much as the words themselves, help the reader to see what you see.  Another beauty, Rhiannon.

I really enjoyed this, and then reading about the background to it made it even more poignant.  What a wonderful memorial to your relative.

I am Delilah, and this is being typed by the servant of myself and Zsa Zsa.  I have a new game for Omar.  Get your local vet to put either you or Mitsie on special expensive food that only the one of you is supposed to have, and then swap bowls...

Some very striking imagery - the one that stood out for me was the passage comparing Joanie's voice to a shotgun, 'her words repeating until the cartridge emptied, until her words were simple, hollow clicks.'  I wasn't too sure about some of the...

Hampstead Heath makes perfect

Hampstead Heath makes perfect sense! My mum came from Wapping, so rhyming slang was a part of life. Eventually my parents came to live near me, in t'North, and so my kids went to school bilingual, fluent in both Yorkshire and Cockney.

The Tooth Fairy is, obviously, protected from ketchup by her sparkles, as are all us members of the Fairy community. She says that if your daughter ever wishes to take revenge for the childhood trauma, she will happily assist. There's a lot she...

Lovely story, Penny! Thank goodness the teeth survived intact, and it was only your mother's nerves which were shredded.

Thanks for entering the competition!
