Hello! I am an old crone who very much enjoys reading SF, urban fantasy and horror. I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. My new website is currently under construction, and you are cordially invited to come and have a peep at the blogs and free stories there. You can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

What a lovely memory, Jenny.

What a lovely memory, Jenny. This will strike a chord with all us cat lovers! Oh yes, that movement only they are privy to, and the way the tail curls. They all have their particular ways of moving and their routines. A very enjoyable read on...

I'm concerned now, about the Triceratopses. You've got me thinking about when my son was little and we used to finish shopping by going to the toy shop to shut him up, and if I was exhausted and he was persistent he might get one of the cheap...

You are right, the grief for an animal often nudges previous griefs. This is so very well written, and although it's intensely personal it's also completely recognisable and relatable for the reader. Thanks for posting.

I've caught up with all this now, and really enjoying it. It feels as though you really know your characters and the setting, and I'm really liking the way it builds. Lots of intriguing points along the way and 'breadcrumbs' to draw the reader in...

Oh no, Jane, I'm so very sorry. Creativity may help the guilt muscle, in time. I know it'll probably be a while before you can accept that there's no guilt attached to a very sad accident. Bring the creativity back here as soon as you feel able...

And when even the most compliant start getting restive about the inconvenient dead bodies and starving kids, hey, let's go bomb somewhere else as a bit of a distraction and the latest entry in the dick-swinging competition.

Thanks for...

I do have a smartphone, but I refuse to use it to pay anything, or have any apps that require me to upload bank details. It's handy for taking photos (where I would take photos anyway, not to Instagram my life!). I use very basic apps, really....

Thanks, Di. As we all melt

Posted on Fri, 20 Jun 2025

Thanks, Di. As we all melt into puddles here, I was wondering if it's a bit cooler up where you are? You have all those wonderful woods near you, which maybe ward off a bit of the heat.

I was in Scarborough a little while ago, just for a...
