I write all sorts, some of it SF, urban fantasy and horror, a lot of it not. Sometimes I can even be funny, so I'm told. My short stories have appeared in the anthologies 'Cold Iron: Ghost Stories from the 21st Century' (Iron Press) and 'Science Fiction For Survival: An Archive For Mars' (Valley Press), as well as in magazines ranging from the literary magazine 'Dreamcatcher' to 'Writing Magazine' and 'The People's Friend' (the latter definitely not SF, urban fantasy or horror). I do regular local spoken word events, and needless to say there is a novel on the go. Do come and have a peep at the blogs, stories and audio at https://www.janeayrie.com - you can even go mad and sign up for my newsletter! Plus the usual social media stuff. All details below. Thanks for dropping in! (Oh, the picture is of my highly critical personal editor.)

Some very striking imagery - the one that stood out for me was the passage comparing Joanie's voice to a shotgun, 'her words repeating until the cartridge emptied, until her words were simple, hollow clicks.'  I wasn't too sure about some of the...

Oh blimey, this takes me back

Posted on Mon, 04 May 2026

Oh blimey, this takes me back. My grandparents lived in Dagenham, and used to take me 'up Chadwell Heath' to visit someone or other when I was little. Also...port and lemon. Too young to ever have had it, but my Mum used to speak fondly of it as...

Whenever I read about what

Posted on Sun, 29 Mar 2026

Whenever I read about what is happening with you all, I think of the lovely, warm and generous Americans I have known over the years, and I feel both bewildered and sad at the news. It was great to see so many people turn out for the No Kings...
