A GRANDPA'S CORNER

Being a Grandpa, Granddad, or Grampy is simply grand. It is the culmination of life's journey. Too often as men get older they think in terms of retirement, with a cold bottle of beer in their hands, or simply being able to watch TV until their eyes are bloodshot.

Others, like myself, still feel young enough to keep our legs moving and minds active. Regular walking is a blessing, if you are able. And using your mind keeps one's imagination full of sparkle. Daily walks with my wife and writing poems and stories from a grandpa's point of view is important to me.

My wife, Esther (with whom I married on March 27, 1975 in Sarnia, Ontario. We moved to Truro Nova Scotia in 1986 and continue to live in this beautiful province.

My health continues to improve since my stroke in 1999, and most of my poems and stories have been created since that time. It helped me recapture brain cells, memory and a desire to overcome physical limitations.

A love of the outdoors blended with contemporary issues learned during many years in the Social Service field form the basis of my writing. And I love to write. Even though I have no best sellers to garner a good income, sharing work through this site and others is stimulating.

I was born and raised in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec. For eight years, I participated in the Writers-in-the-Schools program, under the auspices of the Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia, of which I am a long time member. One award for which I am very proud is a story about a foster child.

Many of my poems and stories are in print and online; some in The Danforth Review, Rubicon Publishing, Parenting Express, Hudson View, Oak Foliate, Dublin Quarterly, the Ottawa Arts Journal, and many others. I also have a poetry chapbook with Mercutio Press.

We wish our readers well. May you receive an abundance of blessings, in 2016 and years to follow.
