I wonder if Kit is right and they're not really in the Mezzanine! But actually dead. Kit is certainly devoted to Sam and will do anything to protect him.
I can just imagine you walking through the woods breathing in all that leafy air, but knowing that it won't last when autumn comes around again and blows the leaves away, a bit like ourselves, the wind brings the message that...

I like this portrayal of a scenic walk, and the great cathedrals of cliffs, and how the waves bruise with each eruption. All you have not said flowing and spilling into hidden pools below...I suppose better left unsaid.
