The Beautiful Game

This is a letter to Benjamin Netanyahu. It's about a real issue which is happening right now. I know that there are many terrible things that have happened, and are happening, in Gaza and the West Bank, and a children's football pitch may seem such a minor thing. But it really touched a nerve with me. I feel powerless to do anything about it, but at least I can cry into the void with my letter.

Kind of in response to the Inspiration Point, except that I misread it as 'spinning' because I didn't have my glasses on ! I thought I'd post it anyway ..

Worse than that never hearing of the Woodetops, Andy Pandy or The Flower Pot Men, Tim hadn't read a single book since he left school apart from a Wilbur Smith novel which someone had given his mother when she was in hospital.  This was nothing to...

You're a natural story teller

Posted on Tue, 21 Jul 2026

You're a natural story teller Jane, it's so easy to slide into this and be right there.  I loved your phrase 'if you’re going to kill every man who speaks out of turn to you, you’re going to need your own graveyard'.

Thank you very much eds !

Thank you very much eds !

I did go home and tell my mum, and she thought it was hilariously funny, and by then I did too.  Eventually we calmed down and then she said 'Well I never liked him anyway' and that started us off all over again...

Rein me in, Zebedee !

Brian the Snail, now there's a name from the past !

Slugs and snails are mad about cat food (they're not vegan like most people think).  When I put the left over cat food out for the hedgehog he has to be pretty snappy to beat the slimy...

Hi Paul

Hi Paul

Your poem is a lovely memorial to Skye.  They always stay with you, loyal even after they've left. Little reminders pop up.  I do hope you get another one, please tell us if you do.

Gosh Turlough I had no idea

Posted on Thu, 09 Jul 2026

Gosh Turlough I had no idea of all that, and me a Catholic in a convent in the 60s and 70s too.  Thank you for explaining it, I will go and look it up.  I'd read your book about it.

Re the bonfires, I did see today in the news about the...

God knows, apparently

Posted on Thu, 09 Jul 2026

I always found it strange at the height of the Troubles that we had different kinds of Christians literally attacking another.

We haven't moved on since the medieval period when the Crusades moved from the Middle East to Eastern Europe and...

It's Me or the Dog !

Posted on Wed, 08 Jul 2026

I loved this, it's very funny and very clever and very true.  (I'm one of JD Vance's childless cat ladies).

I hope you will write more adventures of Cybele.

Good point Jane.  My sister

Posted on Thu, 09 Jul 2026

Good point Jane.  My sister is a farmer and my step mother is a riding instructor.  People like that have two choices - cancel their work and lose money, or slog it out in the heat.

I'd like to see something in the news about how outdoor...
