We walk through the park, holding hands, out of habit. Together. Apart. The November air has that kind of stillness you only get in autumn. Not just...

Death on the Beach

Written after I saw a French and Saunders skit on the iconic scene where the Knight plays chess with Death on the beach, from Ingmar Bergman's The Seventh Seal . This has been previously posted on ABC, so it might look familiar. There are a few stories I'm putting back up.

Storm Wracked Sky

Can you be drowned in a storm-wracked sky As deep as a storm-wracked sea ? Can you run aground on a pale full moon And shelter in her lee ?

Nigella

Hi Jenny

Posted on Fri, 06 Mar 2026

Hi Jenny

Opacity is a symptom rather than a cause - it's a result of inflammation, and that can be caused by all sorts of things, in my case it was viral pneumonia.

I absolutely think it's a good idea to go to a medical...

Jenny I am so sorry for your experiences.  I spent 7 hours in GWH A&E once.  In your previous post you described it as hell, but I think you are doing hell a disservice.  Hell is like Butlins compared to Swindon A&E.

When I had...

Debelets is a great word.

Debelets is a great word.  Sounds to me like it means small Sloane Rangers.

Entertaining and funny as always, although the Ludo Fan Club will be disappointed.  We'd hoped he might get have got through a few weeks without physical damage...

Hi Jenny

I'd like to add my good wishes for your speedy recovery to everyone else's. Did you go to GWH  A&E ?  If you did, then you have even more of my sympathy.

I'm pleased you have your partner so you're not facing this...

Groovy Groomers

Posted on Tue, 03 Mar 2026

Poor shih tzus.  I'm a sucker for animal rescue programs, and have seen bundles of completely matted gunk rescued where it's been impossible to tell that there's a dog inside at all. It's heart warming to see the RSPCA vet armed with Black and...

I was reading it at midnight

Posted on Sun, 01 Mar 2026

I was reading it at midnight in bed, and it really was a spooky coincidence.

It's actually a book of short stories.  The first story, set on Achill, is called 'A Long and Painful Death'

I'm having a Claire Keegan binge at the moment...
