No job, low wage AND a huge
Posted on Sun, 11 Jan 2026
No job, low wage, AND a huge debt of tens of thousands of pounds when they leave !
When I went to university in 1973, only 5% of school leavers went to university, so a degree was really worth having. We got a decent grant and I worked...

Real jobs
Posted on Sun, 11 Jan 2026
We definitely need more school leavers (girls as well as boys) to become plumbers, electricians, car mechanics, lorry drivers etc. Job security, plenty of work, and good wages, if you're competent. Much better than going to University IMHO. ...

Spot on Harry.
I've just been to the gym and sometimes I'm the only one in there not staring at a phone. I mean most people are actually using the equipment whilst scrolling and staring.
I suppose you could say nobody goes...

The Triumph of Evil

I know Mark, there were lots of other words I could have used -'hypocrisy' is an obvious one. 'State sponsored terrorism' are another three.
There's irony and hypocrisy all over the place. Trump has steamed into Venezuela and kidnapped a...

What a lovely man.
How much better the world would be if we could all do little acts of kindness for each other.

Hi Turlough
If the worst should come to worst and the vet recommends Ludo has his leg amputated, I just wanted to let you know that I had a cat with three legs who was very happy and active and actually amazingly agile.
He belonged...

Knotty was a long haired
Posted on Mon, 05 Jan 2026
Knotty was a long haired feral who I fed in the garden for 18 months, but I couldn't touch him. He would sit and talk to me while I was gardening, and always looked like he wanted to be loved, but was too scared.
You can imagine what a...

Crime does pay
Posted on Mon, 05 Jan 2026
I walked into the kitchen once to find my cat Knotty up on the worktop with his head stuffed in a plate of roast beef which I'd taken out of the fridge.. He'd only eaten two slices but I thought the rest would be a health hazard so I let him...

Poor Ludo !

He must be galloping through his nine lives, well done to you and P for keeping him going.
I did read about the Bulgarians going Euro. I think the one Euro piece is very pretty, in its two tone colour scheme, I have some left from my...

Thanks for your time Jenny.

Thanks for your time Jenny. I don't know if you have ever read Angela Carter's short story 'The Company of Wolves', or seen the film of the same name, but it is her typically gothic take on the Red Riding Hood story. I would recommend both of...
