Consequences

The speeches in village halls were rousing,
ardent,
strident.
The marks on the paper were made,
scrawled,
scratched.
And the consequence was unforeseen,
unforetold,
unpleasant.
The marches on the streets were violent,
bloody,
fatal.

Power to the intergalactic space warriors
I'm hoping Tarquin Fin-tim-lin-bin-whin-bim-lim-bus-stop-F'tang-F'tang-Olé-Biscuitbarrel's current protégé might inspire a happier fifth verse.

We're in a world where one of the first things the media need to point out about a suspect in an appalling murder is that the person is 'a white British national', in an attempt to head off riots. Although that won't do much good if 'left-wing ideology' is found to have played a part. It never occurred to anyone (thank God) to riot over the deaths of Jo Cox and David Amess. And a senior member of Reform says criticising his party is an incitement to violence, regardless of the matchboxes his lot have gone through setting light to anything they can.
I'm a wee bit cross.
Great writing, Ewan.

A good point well made Ewan.

I agree with Jane, the first thing I thought when the police said they said they were looking for a 'white British male' suspect was that they're really saying what the suspect isn't. Although I think the skin colour is more significant to the mob mentality than the nationality - look at the riots in Southampton about 'immigrants' when the attacker was actually born here.
